Things I did when I was young(er)
May 15th, 2010 by niceyfemme

Haha It’s just nice to reminisce…. I love going back to places, memories of when I was young or younger(?). So I’ll make a series of this.

See I still see myself as someone young, is 25 young to you? To some people like some teenagers I believe they find 25 to be of the right age already to do adult things like say getting married. I don’t know. I believe in what my Mother tells me, that only the body gets older, but the mind and heart stays and feels the same. She says she still feels the same like when she just got married and had me. Haha I have a cool Mom.

One of the memories I remembered today was when I was in high school and I felt like I can do anything that older people do. I still had my confidence so high then haha. Like, say go on business. Aside from being a foodie at heart, I am also an entrepreneur. I remember selling sandwiches at school because I felt good that with just a capital of say Php 20, I can make it double or triple. I love that feeling even to this day.

Plus I so wanted to wear their service crew uniform!

Also in high school, I was “invited” to attend a seminar during our summer break. It is where they ask you to sell some beauty and weight-loss products then invite new members. I totally believed I could do it then, they were just so persuasive heheh. Turned out the only item I sold was a chocolate drink that helps you lose weight, and to whom? TO MYSELF! Haha. I can only laugh about it now. Back then I really took it to heart to make that work. I even tried applying in McDonald’s with a friend Robin Agramon and the location of that outlet is just to far. We were that eager to work for the summer. I think the travel distance was 40 minutes. And the sun was so hot I remember. But that was nothing, I didn’t mind that. Again, it’s so cool for Mommy to let me do crazy things back then. What’s nice is after my long tiring day there’s a yummy meal she cooked for me.

Haha life.

P.S. I really need a scanner. I want to post photos from back then. 🙁

Some Pinoy men are so……
Apr 23rd, 2010 by niceyfemme

Malibog. Or immature. I can’t really find the perfect words as I’m really mad now! I’m not saying all Pinoy men are guilty by the way.
Photobucket
Why am I so irritated? I feel harassed by them. Here’s why.

It’s summertime here in the Philippines, and it’s understandable that it’s sooo hot! We went to SM to do our grocery shopping and I wore a black sleeveless tank top and jeans. As I was waiting for Bee to get the car (we were parked so far from the exit of the supermarket and we bought a lot of stuff, I decided to just wait for him there) a group of people passed by me. Then two of them upon crossing infront of me suddenly said, “Ang sarap!” and “Wow!” Then they all looked at me. You know when they are talking to you right? You feel it. I felt offended to I said, “You guys are so stupid!”

Also, some old men upon passing in front of me will really stare in my chest area, only because I’m wearing a sleeveless tank top. They won’t even try to hide that they are looking at me like that how freaking rude is that.
6
I don’t deserve this. Why are Filipino men like this? Testosterone overload? I don’t dress provocatively. This is actually the reason why I’m so careful wearing anything other than T-shirt and jeans whenever I’m in here. They really look and even stare. In Singapore men are not like that even when girls show way too much skin.

Why is this the case? I mean really? I never dress sexy because I don’t like it when people look at me, more so be the center of unwanted sexual attention.

To those men, please know when a woman is the type you can just do “that” thing you do I so hate. I’m not that type. If a woman show skin, you can look because it means she’s either asking for it or she’s enjoying the attention. If the woman looks decent and IS DECENT, then control your freaking selves! Is this something you do to compensate for insecurity?  Do you need anything like Vigrx to know and feel like the you are a real man? If you think you need that then go ahead but KEEP ME OUT OF YOUR GESTURES. CONTROL YOUR FREAKING SELVES!

Just sharing these photos I’ve found over Facebook. They made my daya little better, kind of comforting seeing these familiar photos. It gives me back a certain feeling I only felt when I was young.

Simpler life. Yes. So nice.

I knew it
Feb 5th, 2010 by niceyfemme

So I received a call from J a couple hours ago…..

See? I told her this will happen and I have warned her over this but the stubborn woman that she is she went through with it and now less than a week since my fight with Kingkong, I’ve been proven right once again!

I was sooo tempted to tell her “I told you so!” but I stopped myself. It’s not what she needs right now. But it could have felt sooo good to say it out loud. 🙂 Vindication at it’s best form.

Oopppsss! I shouldn’t be feeling this way. Blah! Whatever.

I realized that life is what we make of it. We can choose to live our lives with less drama, simpler and more interesting. Kinda contradicting but works for me when you analyze it well.

This is my goal in my life. Make my life simpler and less complicated. Keep the few good people who genuinely love me close. I believe this will equal to happiness and contentment. And that for me is the primary goal of every single person on Earth. Most people just get distracted with other stuff. We must focus then.

But.

Easier said than done.

A work in progress. Harhar. Blank.

Totality of everything I hate in a MAN: Part I
Feb 2nd, 2010 by niceyfemme

Warning: Niceyfemme’s rant coming over! (If you’re sensitive to these kind of things then better not read what’s ahead.)

I have met him. I knew it before but now I’m sure even more. I won’t mention his name to protect someone close to my heart (Whom we will call J) who happens to be married to him.

How did I come up to this belief? Well he showed me and showed me angrily like King Kong running in the wild.

A REAL man for me is one who is responsible. Knows how to take care of his family. One who places his self last over his wife and kids.

Respectful. Of his wife, mother and his in-laws, women and any living thing.

Industrious. Part of his being responsible is he should know that he needs to work to bring food to the table and NOT rely on his mother to do the work for him. A real man is one who have goals and plans for their future. He only wants what’s best for his kid and will do anything to make that happen and not wait for inheritance to just fall in his fat face.

Gentleman. One who knows how to respect women in general. We Filipinos know that a guy who attacks a woman is GAY. Specially if you are at the wrong. Where’s your freaking balls????? All covered up in fat that there seem none left?

Many more qualities but I’d rather keep this short. After this I want to move on and go back to my serene life.

To you KingKong:

You are a disgrace to Filipino men. You are the total opposite of how I believe Filipino men are. You are an irresponsible rude full-of-air bastard who looks down on people. You do things without thinking what the outcome will be.

You cannot impose the things you like in people. YOU CANNOT ALWAYS HAVE THINGS YOUR WAY. If you’re used to that in your family’s house then forever stay there and you shall forever reign. I AM NOT SOMEONE TO VOW To YOU. SPECIALLY BECAUSE I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU AND AS I TOLD YOU I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU. To think that we have met only a few times and you managed to show me your real colors.

Super Typhoon Experiences
Nov 6th, 2009 by niceyfemme

Rosing, Milenyo, Santi ( All Supertyphoons…..)

I had a number of Super typhoon experiences.

First one, Rosing, was 15 years ago, I was 10 years old then, and I vividly remember how I saw some roofs flying and the sound of the winds so strong…. I was really scared. So scared I remember the date until now. November 1994. (1995?)

Second was just a few years ago and I know most Filipinos won’t forget Milenyo anytime soon. This typhoon was soo strong, probably the strongest I experienced. Strongest and I was unfortunate enough to be caught in the middle of it in the streets. No car, no roof, no nothing over my head.

Fun Sunday with Ming-Ming and “Bj”….
Nov 4th, 2009 by niceyfemme

Our new friend Ate Jane had been telling us for weeks about her friend Umi’s birthday and that we are invited… Since Bee was free on that day we said yes. It will be an outdoor barbeque….

Photobucket

Food is at the back table and in the grill……..

Photobucket

Thanks Bee for this shot…. Ganda ng greens o!

Photobucket

Hahahah! Ang saya naman…….

Photobucket

The hostess and her boyfriend Cedric……. with the funny tasting green soda…

There are more guests in another table but they were busy playing cards heheh….

Bee ate lots of chicken wings, I liked the grilled mussels, so sweet!

Ferocious beauty……

Then after eating, I saw this gorgeous fat cat! I ran after her hahah I went crazy…..

Photobucket

I sooo love her color! I love the color brown and I don’t usually see brown cats as fat as her…. I followed her like a paparazzi 😉

Photobucket

She looks life a stuffed toy that’s so soft…. If only she wouldn’t scratch my face if I’d dare hug her hehehe…..

Photobucket

Reason why I love taking photos of cats is because they’re so pretty and graceful….. But not all cats I like, I do this rarely…. Only when she’s really pretty, like men to girls heheh…. 😉

Photobucket

She seems to be restless, like walking around in the playground…..

She’s looking for something I sensed…..

Photobucket

See?

Then she ran so fast, towards her…..

Photobucket

I was a little jealous haha! I told the auntie her cat is so pretty she said that I could have the cat, and she seemed serious… I told her no I’m scared thank you hahah!

Photobucket

Then the cat must’ve sensed what we’re talking about she walked towards me, she got too close to me I panicked a bit! I almost ran heheh… I’m such a sissy…..

Went back to the group and we sang Happy Birthday song to Umi and blew her candles in her yummy looking cake….. Then she shared it with us… Yum….

Then after eating, we headed back home… Bee and I thought that’s it, the celebration is done. So I took a nap.

Two dollars! SGD2.00!

I woke up with somebody’s loud voice saying SGD 2.00…. Another one saying five dollars!

I checked what that is, turned out they just started playing cards, Bj or Black Jacks. I dont know how to play that game so I just watched. Bee was playing with them.

I just talked to one of the girls, Rhea, who was deep frying fries for everybody. I took a grilled kamote (sweet potato), which was surprisingly sweet! Very nice, I like this kind of discovery hehhe…. I’m obviously a foodie.

Then Bee lost around SGD 7.00. So I asked them how it’s played, what the rules are etc…. Then I tried my luck hehehh….

Beginner’s Luck?

I lost SGD 10.00. Bad. Obviously it didn’t work for me. I was just betting small amounts like $1, or $2 the most. I still lost. What’s nice is I found myself enjoying the game and our new friend’s company. I liked the vibe and the excitement I was feeling then…

So I went to the room looking for some loose change, found around $4.00. Went back. Sat. Then just played it by ear heheh… Sometimes holding my breath searching for lakas ng loob hahaha!

Then my $4.00 became $40 plus! Wow I was winning already. Then they started checking their wrist watches as it’s already getting late. Those who lost big amounts of money wanted to win them back so they raised their bets, Ate Jane who lost $150 by then started to bet $10 per game! I got nervous heheh…. I raised mine too but not as hgh as hers. I raised it to $5. Then it got crazy. The game ended with me having $40 and Ate Jane lost $100.

Nice day. Got some new friends and I won some dollars hahah! What more could we want? Free food, nice company and some dollars… Nice, nice, nice.

Mustafa Trip… (Part 1)
Oct 30th, 2009 by niceyfemme

Date: 22 Oct 2009
Location: Mustafa in Little India, Singapore

Severe Food Cravings?

Yes, that’s the reason I gave myself for going to Mustafa yesterday… I had this irresistible urge to go there to buy some things, so I did. (Please see previous post.)

Edit: This entry is supposed to be published last week 23 Oct but because of the internet problem, can only do now.

I’ve been there before. Bought some chocolates and sweets (candies) but one product that struck us was that Malunggay is available there. It’s not available anywhere else. So went back to buy. I found it.

Photobucket

But when I looked for Dahon ng Sili (Chili Leaves) the Indian woman gave me a funny look and repeatedly repeated what I ask her. “Chili leaves ha? Leaves of chili?”, she asked. I was like, “Yes, chili leaves.”, with a lot of nodding. Apparently, she found it funny because they don’t use it there. I’ve seen many types of leaves used in Indian cooking but no chili leaves. Ok no problem, I could still use the Malunggay as substitute in my Tinola.

See, my happy place is the grocery area. I love supermarkets. I could stay there for hours and hours until my feet finally give up on me and beg me to sit down. When I was still in college, my best friend and I during our long breaks would go to SM Dasma to go roaming around in the supermarket. We love it there. I remember, we were there for the grand opening and we were kind of broke then, worse thing is we were hungry. There were lots of free taste offering and let me just put it this way, we went out of the mall feeling full! Hahahah! Yeah, happy place.

Going back, even after I have found the one thing I came there for, I still stayed to roam around and check every little product they have there. A supermarket is like a world of wonder hehehe….

Some of the things I’ve found interesting…..

Photobucket

What we Filipinos call Atis. This is imported from Thailand? This variety is just bigger than ours. I actually have seen bigger ones in Bugis.

Photobucket

Some ready made food…. I really thought hard and long if I’d buy this….

Photobucket

Drumsticks, seasoned Indian style.

Photobucket

Some mixes, I bought Satay mix…

Photobucket

and Rendang mix too… I’ve always been intrigued so I’ll try cooking this myself….

Photobucket

The pile of Malunggay leaves. Imported from Malaysia I believe.

And guess what I’ve found?!!!!

Photobucket

Bagoong! SGD 3.00 lang!

SALE, SALE, SALE

As usual so many items on sale. Aside from the chocolates that’s on sale all year round, there’s perfume sale too. Good thing I’m not a musky perfume person because I’d be in big trouble as the stocks on sale are popular brands Filipinos love. (It’s a different issue if Bath and Body works lotion and spray colognes(?) are on sale, yey!)

Photobucket

Or is it? I checked the prices, most are regular priced, except for chocolates, perfumes etc…. For me, it’s still worth it, going here… Just the wide array of choices made me drool….

Paid for the chosen stuff after a good two hours of roaming there…

Hungry….

Mustafa in Little India is known for good Indian food….

Though I have to admit, I’m not a very big fan of this cuisine or any really spicy food in general.

Why?

I believe I was burnt.

When I was new in Singapore, in one of work’s lunch breaks in Newton, we tried a food court and I chose dishes that looked kind of familiar, looked like Pinoy dishes, there was one that looked like Sarciadong Isda. Turned out everything I chose would make me cry, it was that spicy. Of course I can’t eat it. Also expensive so I felt I wasted money so for almost two years I didn’t have any interest with Indian and Malay cuisine, until now.

For some reason, I wanted to eat Indian food. So looked and looked I did.

There was a lot of stalls(?) lining the streets there, you’ll be confused which to choose, like how confused I was.

How to know which is good? Either ask around (which I do not want to do) or follow you’re instincts hehehhe….

So I jalan jalan…..

Photobucket

See? So many…..

Photobucket

I found a fast food/ food court style one with aircon, very tempting as it was very hot and humid that day, but I thought it’s unlikely I’d find authentic indian food there.

Birdie!

While browsing this black bird surprised me! Flew in front of my face then landed to this sack of rice…

Photobucket

There’s a lot of these birds in Singapore and they scare me, I totally forgot my tummy was making a lot of noises begging me to eat….

Finally!

I found one stall.

But will post that next time.

I’ll sum the food experience up in one word.

YUMMY.

Lucky Plaza on a Sunday……
Oct 20th, 2009 by niceyfemme

Date: 18 Oct 2009 / Sunday
Location: Lucky Plaza, Orchard Road, Singapore

So not recommended!

See, Bee and I have new found friends here…. She’s Ate Jane and her Portuguese boyfriend Cedric…

Please go on weekdays if you can… We just went as our Ate Jane can only go on that day….

They invited us to go out to go eat Halo-halo… Knowing it’s a Sunday I was hesitant at first but we can’t resist their offer hehehe… So off we went…

Btw, I loove their food there! I mean, it’s better than restaurants at home… I really appreciate the food in Kabayan Restaurant… Their halo-halo was superb! The mango ice cream on top was wow! There’s even bits of fresh mango… One of the best ice cream i’ve tried…. Their food, Kare-Kare to be specific, I have tried last year was good too…

But I got dizzy with the number of people there! Ate Jane’s friend, Venus, one second is just infront of us the next she’s gone! We had to call her many times….

While waiting for her I browsed some stuff there… Passed by a shades store…. Since mine was crushed I needed a new one… I didnt check the prices first hehehe… So I liked one with no price tag…. Then checked other ones… One with a tag says SGD 599.00! Heart attack! I was like, “Ate Jane, if this one I like cost more than SGD50.00 please don’t let me buy this.” So I asked how much… SGD 25.00! Yey! and they just looked equally nice….. I was like, “Why the price difference?” The sales person who happened to be Pinay said the expensive one is branded and the one I liked is not…

Photobucket

Ok ba?

Photobucket

And I got discount! Bought it for only SGD 20.00! Yey!

Senti: Let’s go back in time…
Oct 18th, 2009 by niceyfemme

Huhuhuhuhhh!

Since Bee has to work and other friends are busy, I don’t have anyone to go with, to wherever I want to go. That hasn’t stopped me before anyway… To be honest, I like solitude. I like going solo sometimes. It means I have full control of my time, I don’t have to consider another person when it comes to decisions etc….

I first went to Vivo to have my favorite chicken rice. I have two types I like, the first one I already mentioned, the Salad Chicken Rice in Seng Huat Bugis and the second one is this Chicken Rice from Banquet. This two types are very different but equally good.

Photobucket

I love their chili. So fresh. With every spoonful of this chicken rice you’re in heaven hahaha! Yeah that’s how I feel. After finishing this plate, I feel full and more importantly, contented. Not many dishes gives me that contented feeling, so Chicken Rice is special to me, also because I always ate this when we were still living in the east with a Banquet just across the road….

Reminiscing Time…….

I decided to visit again the places and foods that became close to my heart. Ok emo mode here…. hehehhe…..

I’m the type of person that gets attached to things, places and foods. I associate them to a certain point or time in my life. See i’m the type who remembers when and where I ate this certain food, for example, my favorite kwek kwek (the orange balls photo) with the best vinegar served with cucumber, I ate that in Alabang with Bee when I was still working and living there. That was between Oct 2006 to May 2007. I’m THAT sure. So, by seeing a certain place I used to often pass by at or eating a certain dish I used to eat often at that point in time, it’s like i’m back there. That’s my way of reminiscing.

kwek2
Kwek-Kwek (To kwek or not to kwek….)

So I decided to go back to where we used to live. Somewhere in the east. Just look at the place again and it’s like i’m back in time. I rode the same bus I used to take everyday. Passed by Esplanade again. This is part of my view everyday.

Photobucket

Near Suntec? And Mandarin?

Photobucket

Even though it’s pretty close to where I lived, I remember it was a 15-20 minute commute to Raffles Place, because buses here are pretty slow. 🙂

Photobucket

In Raffles Place bus stop, where I always wait for the bus going back home.

So I arrived in the old place in the east.

I like living in that area because it’s so convenient. Lots of buses passing by there so yes, convenient. We were even able to do some biking going to east coast park at night because of some space on the side.

Photobucket

Where we live now it’s not possible or i’ll look like a macho femme. It was always “alive”. . And I associate that apartment to a briefly found freedom I had in there. I don’t know. I felt so free then. Just living alone, just by myself. I’ll eat whenever I want to eat, I’ll clean my room whenever I want to clean up. Just peaceful when I’m inside my big, comfy room. Yeah that’s a big part of it hahaha!

After that, I did a little walking near the old place. Just there in the area for a few minutes.

Tanjong Rhu Pao

My favorite Char Siew Pao place. It’s like Pinoy’s siopao asado, it’s sweet. I think it’s just the same, but this one, smaller and the white bread(?) sooo soft.

It’s located in Geylang.

Photobucket

This is close to my heart, kahit na medyo masungit ang uncle na nagtitinda ehhhehhe….

tanjong rhu

And this is how it looks when I order them.

I take away a box with 10 pcs of yummy char siew pao @ SGD 0.60 each…. Lovett!

Since it was already 1900H then, I decided to head home with my sentimental self’s nostalgia factor resolved.

(Hahahha! I dont know what you call that feeling, that relieved feeling.)

Have a good day…….. 🙂
